My first time to the movies in Brazil....a wonderful, but different experience. It was raining, it was 4pm, and I didn't have any students scheduled, so I made my way over to the Kinoplex. This is a very nice theater, walking distance from my apartment, and I thought it would be fun to go watch a movie dubbed over in Portuguese.
Something new and unusual happened when the ticket lady asked me to pick a seat, so just like on ticket master, you pick an available seat. I was then surprised to discover that all the movies are just as they would be in NYC or any state in US---they're in English (with Portuguese subtitles). The overall process of going to the movies was extremely pleasant.
On another note, the movie was close to awful. They may have brought a ton of good actors and actresses together, but it was void of a plot. Much like Valentine's Day (both movies directed by Gary Marshall), it was a disappointment, but I loved the fact that it took place in NYC. For an hour and a half, I was back at home, wandering around Columbus Circle, Times Square, the West Village. You really don't know how wonderful NYC is until you're very far away from it. It's what I would call "The Land of Everything and Anything You Want"----one of the greatest cities on Earth!!
I hope this blog post can save you $15 dollars at the movie theaters....
